PARKER LIAUTAUD, 19 years old becomes the youngest man to ski to the south pole..

A 19-year-old has become to the youngest man to ski to the South Pole arriving there on Christmas Eve and setting a new speed record at the same time.

Parker Liautaud spent Christmas Day at the South Pole after arriving on Christmas Eve at the head of the Willis Resilience Expedition, achieving the goal of setting a new record for the fastest-ever unsupported walk from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole.

Liautaud, a student at Yale University, has a very different approach to many other Polar explorers as when he set out on 6 December he aimed to collect nearly 2,500 scientific samples and has joined forces with academic institutions to study climate change.

The unsupported speed record started on the Ross Ice Shelf from where Parker and his teammate Doug Stoup covered 314 miles to the bottom of the world pulling sleds weighing in excess of 80kg over ice and snow, across the trans-Antarctic mountain range, through blizzards and mist in temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees celsius.

"It's an incredible honour to stand at the South Pole after a successful expedition," said Parker in statement from the South Pole. "Over the past several weeks I have learned a lot and am very thankful for the support of the team around me that made this expedition possible. I now hope to work with our scientific partners in the next phase of the research from this expedition and continue to contribute to reigniting the dialogue on climate change."

Speaking to Independent via satellite phone from the South Pole today Parker added that he was "exhausted" and "emotional" after his journey but would be spending the day like "everyone else eating and sleeping". He'll be staying in his tent, however his support team at the Pole has set up a stove and a chair, which he described as "wonderful luxuries".

Prior to the speed record attempt the team was transported 1,790km from Union Glacier by a specially Toyota truck. The team will now spend the next few days in the South Pole before travelling back to Union Glacier where the team can catch a flight out of Antarctic back to Punta Arenas, Chile.

Meanwhile fellow British explorer Ben Saunders is expected to reach the South Pole by the end of the week in a bid to recreate Captain Robert Scott's ill-fated 1,800-mile journey to the bottom of the Earth

Speaking from his tent in Antarctica, Ben Saunders said. "We've spent much of the last week in at least partial whiteout which I can only describe as a bit like existing inside a ping pong ball. When the sun does break through though it's clear blue skies and a white surface to the horizon in all directions."

According to his support team Scott and his men experienced a similarly white Christmas on their pioneering journey to the South Pole on their Terra Nova expedition in 1911/12 Saunders is blogging his experiences to sit alongside Scott's diary, but like Scott he only enjoyed his standard rations yesterday — almost 6,000 calories of high-energy freeze dried food, hot energy drinks and energy bars in place of a traditional roast turkey, mince pies and Christmas pudding.

AIPMT preparation tips.. ( NOWHERE-ELSE-DISCUSSED TYPE..)

AIPMT 2014 or All India Pre Medical Test is a national level medical entrance test for admission to the MBBS and BDS courses into the medical and dental colleges of the country.

here are some preparation tips..
*** as the exam is approaching.. DO NOT  count the number of remaining days left. like 100, 99, 98.. omg 50,49..

*** while checking the objective questions you just solved..  whenever an answer goes wrong, look for "WHAT THINGS YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO KNOW...IN ORDER TO SOLVE THIS QUESTION"..  WRITE THAT THING ON A PAPER OR SEPARATE SMALL NOTEBOOK..   this becomes so much useful for last moment revision..

*** should make a list on separated piece of paper of all the topics in syllabus, subject-wise.  and make a tick mark every time you read any topic.. no matter you understood or learnt it or not.
reading twice, make double tick,,and so on..  this boosts your confidence

*** make short mnemonics..that can be kept in recent memory before exams..  self made mnemonics works best.  especially,, plant and animal diversity(taxonomy),  families of angiosperm, animal tissues, modification of plant , plant anatomy

*** to learn some things.. just combine the two words into one as if they were single word..
   e.g.    in plant-modification
'sucker'   found in mint..    so, make it sucker-mint (rhymes chlormint.. and thus you never forget)
*** remember.. after exams , all you will be left with is a set of ROLL NUMBERS,   like a lottery number.. , so, give your best while you can..

*** set your routine such that..daily during those exam hours (around 10am to 1 pm), you are at your best mental activity..   so that you are at your best in exam as well

*** can make list of formulae and MTR(must to remember) points.. to keep looking while travelling from home city to exam city..  . helps you keep away from negative thoughts as well..

*** good luck :)

"good luck mr.gorsky" is what neil armstrong said on moon.. WHY??

When Apollo Mission Astronaut Neil Armstrong first walked on the moon, he not only gave his famous "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" statement but followed it by several remarks, usual com traffic between him, the other astronauts and Mission Control. Just before he re-entered the lander, however, he made the enigmatic remark "Good luck, Mr. Gorsky."
Many people at NASA thought it was a casual remark concerning some rival Soviet Cosmonaut. However, upon checking, there was no Gorsky in either the Russian or American space programs. Over the years many people questioned Armstrong as to what the "Good luck, Mr. Gorsky" statement meant, but Armstrong always just smiled.
On July 5, 1995 (in Tampa Bay, FL) while answering questions following a speech, a reporter brought up the 26-year-old question to Armstrong. This time he finally responded. Mr. Gorsky had finally died and so Neil Armstrong felt he could answer the question.
When he was a kid, he was playing baseball with a friend in the backyard. His friend hit a fly ball which landed in the front of his neighbor's bedroom windows. His neighbors were Mr. & Mrs. Gorsky.
As he leaned down to pick up the ball, young Armstrong heard Mrs. Gorsky shouting at Mr. Gorsky, "Oral sex! You want oral sex?! You'll get oral sex when the kid next door walks on the moon!"
True story.

apps ideas

while using mobile phones, we often come across WISH-THERE-WAS-SUCH-AN-APP situation..
lets share that idea here,,so that it reaches the app developers

e.g. 1

how about an app that on one touch...completely mutes any kind of sound from phone..no matter what you click or play or whatever.. {CLASSROOM MODE}

e.g. 2

for taking a snapshot we use combination of keys.. how about an app that uses combinations to kill all the running applications at once..including those failing to respond at the moment---
particularly helpful when the phone hangs.
